Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad was born on 6 November 1950 in Rawalpindi, Punjab, Pakistan. He belongs to a Kashmiri family and is the youngest of his brothers. He received his early education from Christian High School and Government Polytechnic College in Rawalpindi. He then graduated from Gordon College with a law degree and later obtained a master's degree in political science from Punjab University. He also worked as an executive of Gulmarg Mills before entering politics.
Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad started his political career as a student leader and a journalist. He joined the Pakistan Muslim League (PML) in 1985 and became a member of the National Assembly for the first time. He has been elected to the parliament eight times from his home constituency of Rawalpindi. He has served as a federal minister for various portfolios, including information and broadcasting, railways, interior, culture, tourism, industries, labour and manpower, overseas Pakistanis, and youth affairs.
